After preliminaries last weekend (August 20-21), the field of comedians in the contest was narrowed from 27 to six. The finalists are:
Newburyport's Chris Cameron, Chris Dimitrakopoulos of Peabody, Jody Sloane of Haverhill, Ed Vezina of Lowell, Kellie Donlon of Danvers, and Matt D. of Somerville.
The comedians, each with six years or fewer of experience, will compete for a $200 prize in the contest, sponsored by Scamps Comedy Productions. Winners will be determined by voting from members of the audience, who will vote for the top three.
Comedians will perform seven-minute sets. Contestants will be penalized for going beyond seven minutes, and material will be suitable for adults.
Some of the comedians have been performing at professional clubs in Boston, others have had just a handful of performances.
Hosted by Erik Rodenhiser, an actor/comedian, and featuring a closing set by one of Boston's veteran headliners.
